Energy charge: each kWh band is charged at its own per-unit rate (initial 25 kWh, then progressively larger and pricier bands up to an "all additional" rate) — never the whole consumption at the top band's rate. Your bill is the higher of the energy charge or your tariff class's own minimum charge (a modelling assumption — the Government Notice does not spell out this interaction). Bills round to the nearest rupee.

How is the CEB bill calculated here?
Consumption is billed in progressive bands (e.g. the initial 25 kWh at one rate, the next 25 kWh at a higher rate, and so on up to an "all additional kWh" rate) — each band's own rate applies only to the slice of consumption within it. The result is compared against your tariff class's own minimum charge, and the higher of the two is billed.
Are these rates permanent?
No — the current rates (General Notice No. 473 of 2026, effective 1 May 2026) are explicitly labelled "temporary charges pending a final tariff determination" by the Utility Regulatory Authority, and may change again before a final determination is made. This calculator also does not model Tariff 110A (Social Register of Mauritius), Time-of-Use Tariff 150C, or residential-prosumer (net-metering) tariffs — always confirm your own bill with CEB.
